The Museums in Pistoia and province
Situated in a privileged position between Florence, Lucca and Pisa, the province of Pistoia is divided into three large areas: Pistoia and the plain, the Nievole Valley and the Pistoia Mountains, all zones that are rich in cultural resources that can meet every type of interest.
The centre of Pistoia and its surroundings offer the chance to make an exciting journey into the past from the Middle Ages right up to the present day. Art and nature find their perfect union in the Nievole Valley: a series of hills, ancient castles, wetlands and historic spas set in an environment where history has left deep traces. The Pistoia mountains offer the chance of a direct contact with nature at its wildest, a place where man has been forced to adapt himself to cope with the hostile conditions and many difficulties of the environment, thus learning to exploit the principal resources available to him, which were the waters and the forests. In this area some of the oldest traditions still survive in the historic villages surrounded by a suggestive landscape.
The many museums that can be found in these three large areas offer the chance to explore a varied and fascinating territory that is rich in tradition, art and history, as well as being an excellent starting point for discovering Pistoia and its province. |
